"No leverage": WTF Democrats?!?!?!
The House Democratic leader sounds like he's giving up, and that is absolutely unacceptable.
In a press conference on February 7, 2025, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries stated that the Democrats in Congress had “no leverage” to fight against Trump. Trump and the Republicans control all three branches of government. While I understand his viewpoint, I also strongly disagree with the assertion that Democrats are unable to fight back in this moment.
Donald Trump and Elon Musk are running roughshod over federal government with reckless abandon and executive fiat. They are not working with Congress to pass bills to make changes to government. Trump is simply signing Executive Orders and the executive branch is implementing them. Since they are ignoring Congress, I can understand why Leader Jeffries feels he has no leverage.
Past Presidents of both parties have traditionally worked with Congress to pass their agendas. Republicans used every maneuver imaginable to block Democratic Presidents from getting their agendas through—from filibusters and holds in the Senate, to every parliamentary maneuver possible to delay in the House. Jeffries likely entered this Congress assuming that Democratic pushback would look like past minority party opposition. He was wrong, and that causes great concern.
Donald Trump is abandoning tradition and precedent. Instead of working to pass a legislative agenda, he is ruling like a dictator. Many in Congress, who are accustomed to tradition and decorum, likely find this puzzling and are at a loss for how to respond. We may have an unprecedented situation, but that does not permit paralysis.
All of this was outlined in Project 2025. We spent months informing the public about Project 2025. How was the Democratic Party UNPREPARED to combat it? The country needs a strong opposition party. The Democratic Party needs to step up and fight Donald Trump’s egregious violations of tradition and the rule of law.
We are seeing marches all over the country in every state capital, plus in DC. While the mainstream media is barely paying attention to them, they are happening. People are mobilizing. They are not being organized by our congressional or party leadership. It is the people who are leading, with a few members of Congress brave enough to stand with them. Frankly, we need more members of Congress like Jasmine Crocket, Robert Garcia and AOC—people willing to call out and be bold. We need Democratic leaders and the Democratic Party to fight back as if their basket of F*cks is completely empty. That is our leverage.
